Exchange Programmes

Students of the MA Gender Studies have various opportunities to deepen their studies at other study locations, also across national borders. In particular, the interdisciplinary structure of the programme invites students to look beyond their own horizons in order to expand their own level of knowledge theoretically, methodologically and in terms of content through new focal points. The focus is on the question of how gender is negotiated at other locations or in other perspectives. The model study programme offers two formats for this:

  1. there is a cooperation agreement within the framework of the Swiss-European Mobility Programme (SEMP) between Bielefeld Gender Studies and the Centre Gender Studies of the University of Basel in Switzerland. Two students from the Bielefeld MA Gender Studies can study the Basel Master's programme in Gender Studies each semester. (Information on the programme).
  2. students within Germany can visit other universities where the Master's programme in Gender Studies is offered as part of the intra-German exchange programme PONS and complement their studies there with alternative perspectives (PDF).

Contact person* for SEMP and PONS is Svenja Haberecht (svenja.haberecht@uni-bielefeld.de).

In addition, students can go abroad with the "Erasmus" programme via the sponsoring faculties of the degree programme (e.g. via the Sociology or as so-called "Free-Movers" apply independently for another university.
